Henry Burr
The ballad tenor of the acoustic era, and a Canadian.
If Billy Murray was the comic voice of the era, Henry Burr was its sentiment. A Canadian tenor who recorded under a small forest of pseudonyms, he specialised in the parlour ballad — mother songs, war songs, songs about home — and sold them by the million. He later became a fixture of the National Barn Dance, one of the few acoustic-era stars to survive into network radio.
